Securing the light

Creative block is not devoid of color; it is rather filled with it. The disconnect comes in the lack of motivation. You can still see what you need to see, but you can’t see reason to cultivate outcomes. I ran into this color wall in October but avoided it for almost three months as if it were chasing me. I’m way behind in editing photos. I haven’t taken any since December 13th while attempting to comb through the backlog.

Bob Ross Colorado spruce

I remember thinking to myself, “Wow, that’s a Bob Ross tree.” I must have done this at least three or four times over the course of the weekend, because I have as many photographs from various moments. I only remember photographing the tree once, but there it was again as I went through my five memory cards. I shot 2,500 photographs on my September trip to Colorado and processed maybe 700 of them to this point. Maybe half of the original 2,500 are duplicates and there are a few triplicates, as well. Anyway, it all melts into the back of my brain until I sift through for the winners. I think Bob Ross would have taken out the light pole and encircled the base with foliage.

Between weddings over the great plains

I was editing a wedding on my way back from Denver having shot another wedding, and the light was perfect. We left at 5pm and by 7pm it was dark, which made for interesting lighting conditions with a constantly-changing sky. I could tell the lady next to me wanted to ask why I was taking so many photos out the window, but she probably got that I’m kind of into photography by all of the wedding photos on my laptop. They went neglected for the first 90 minutes of the flight.

Pharmed love

Condensation after rain on a humid evening in August helped to obscure the identities of these two lovebirds as they forged more than a doctor-patient relationship on the advertising boards of a nameless Rx in downtown Chicago. Of course it was a major chain with drugs and overpriced sodas.

Partway through the workday

I learned today that window-cleaning is considered the most dangerous job (Vicar is the safest)┬áin the UK. That’s saying something considering they employ armed forces.
