Between weddings over the great plains

I was editing a wedding on my way back from Denver having shot another wedding, and the light was perfect. We left at 5pm and by 7pm it was dark, which made for interesting lighting conditions with a constantly-changing sky. I could tell the lady next to me wanted to ask why I was taking so many photos out the window, but she probably got that I’m kind of into photography by all of the wedding photos on my laptop. They went neglected for the first 90 minutes of the flight.

Memory of a cloud

I enjoy massaging the good out of the mundane. There’s nothing more mundane than the middle section of a flight where the ground is too far away and the clouds less defined. Every now and again a couple of workable formations float past, and when they do I’m scrambling to find composition. Sometimes the beauty of clouds is that they actually don’t need structure; their layers make naturally contrasting light. The challenge is making it look the way you remember it.

Left for days

The first time I saw her I laughed, but after passing the shop a few times on several different days I realized they wanted her this way, which is genius. I mean, everything about it is awesome.

Leaning on a stoplight

I saw a man leaning on a stoplight today. When it changed, halting the cars on the left, he ran to them begging for whatever you can get at a stoplight. It was the exit ramp from an expressway that ran under the road, and he disappeared after three or four cars, sprinting on to the next one down the ramp. When the cars moving in our direction took off seconds later, I looked down the ramp. Looked like a traffic jam.
