20 seconds in the middle of LaSalle Street

A strange opportunity arises on the busiest days in the city. Due to the heavy foot traffic you can pause in the middle of the street just outside of the crosswalk and use your 20 seconds of crossing time to shoot away from the walkers toward a mostly-empty street. The cars can’t turn into you thanks to the wall of humanity behind you.

This is LaSalle. After trying it once and not getting a great shot I went back out there for this one. I kind of liked the Bimbo Bread truck obscuring part of the view and the man J-walking. This street is featured in one of the Batman films thanks to the Board of Trade building anchoring the end of the street. From this distance it gets swallowed up in the cavern of skyscrapers lining the street.

  1. I always loved this view as I walked to the Board of Trade Building (a great Chicago icon) when I worked in it years ago. You captured it beautifully!
