Washington L tube lit

The subway section of The Chicago ‘L’ can be a dark and dingy place, especially late at night when trains are often delayed some ten or 20 minutes. This was one such night. After waiting a quarter of an hour, these lights finally warmed the tunnel both literally and figuratively. At the Washington stop the tunnel is so straight you can see the next few stops to the south very clearly. This train happens to be waiting agonizingly close at the Monroe station a couple of city blocks away. When it finally arrived it was packed with people, and the car felt as warm as an oven.
